In capturing highlights from the symphony's upcoming 30-week season, the Rivard Report team reflected on the Symphony's premiere Tricentennial performance opportunity---San Antonio’s Eastside Tricentennial Celebration and Keynote Presentation featuring Dr. Ruth Simmons May 3 and hosted at the college by St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston. The event was a triumphant homecoming for the symphony team. The 23-season San Antonio Symphony in Residence project at St. Philip’s College (1988-2011) is the college’s longest community engagement project with an arts-sports-entertainment industry partner. For the return performance and first performance at the college by symphony conductor Sebastian Lang-Lessing, Lessing and his team treated the audience that included SPC Choir performers to a rare gem for the intellect---one of the few full-symphonic performances of Lift Every Voice and Sing anyone is likely to hear.
